An Apostle Speaks on Depression - by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland

Having a strong faith as a member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I find the following talk in General Conference especially rewarding as it refers to emotional healing and seeking professional help.

How Hypnosis Can Be An Acceptable Therapeutic Option for LDS Members:

How Hypnosis Can Be An Acceptable Therapeutic Option for LDS Members:

There is some confusion amongst LDS members about hypnosis.

The LDS church quotes below (and their accompanying articles) clarify
that hypnosis is not to be used for entertainment purposes (often called “stage hypnosis”),
but it can be acceptable, helpful, and effective when conducted for therapeutic purposes
by competent, well-trained professionals (called “medical/clinical hypnosis”).

Accordingly, the following quotes clarify the LDS church’s position on using hypnosis for therapeutic purposes:

The use of hypnosis under competent, professional medical supervision for the treatment of diseases or mental disorders is a medical question to be determined by competent medical authorities. Members should not participate in hypnosis for purposes of demonstration or entertainment.”

“Hypnosis is a powerful force and in my opinion should be employed only by the best-trained and most ethical professionals for very important reasons.”

Hypnotherapy = Pondering and Meditation

I may not personally agree with everything in the following article.
What I definitely agree with though is that Hypnotherapy can be a form of Pondering and Meditation.

Christian Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy = Pondering and Meditation

This Blog is to discuss Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy from a Christian viewpoint, as well as the traditional clinical views. I want to promote an understanding of Pondering and Meditation (Scriptural terms for what the world is calling hypnosis and hypnotherapy) as our natural God given spiritual gifts of mental trance states, in which we can more fully connect to the divine within each of us, known as our Spirit, Intelligence, and Conscience
